HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE EMIR OF KANO - NIGERIA

on February 13, 2020 Tijay Mohammed presented 2 Acrylic on canvas paintings to His Royal Highness the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II (2014-2020) entitled “Kano: The Blessed Land” and “My Role Model”

My art projects aim at addressing societal challenges particularly recognition of vital role women play in building resilient families, communities and nations. My projects have also been devoted to migration, connecting the journey of migrant families and their contribution to global peace and development; having mapped my own family history and experiences from Kano to Ghana and America which has consequently contributed to making my opinions and artworks and projects unique. 

His Royal Highness has always been a complete model for me as a young Muslim striving for change in the status quo, in my quest for peace, tolerance and open mindedness. The life of the Emir and his approach to social challenges is inspirational as he has been described by many as someone who traverses different worlds, and to me his leadership paints picture of a dream future that global citizens aspire. 

By virtue of our shared goal and vision for our community and Africa at large, the visit of His royal highness is also to learn from his wisdom and seek his advice, however above all to bless us as young Muslims aspiring greatness in our fields of endeavor. 

Finally, I also wish to thank His Royal Highness for making the culture and activities of the emirate accessible to the globe especially the youth through the daily updates on social media, @MasarautarKano has been a great resource for research and learning the great traditions of our ancestors.
